The Consumers Energy pump house on Reno Rd. is no longer needed for the operation of our Freedom Compressor Station in Freedom Township. Therefore, we will be demolishing the structure in an environmentally friendly manner, protecting the lake and land during the process. The demolition is expected to begin at the end of January (weather permitting) and continue through February. During this time residents in the area will see construction vehicles and workers performing the demolition. For the safety of the community, please be cautious around the area due to larger trucks, increased activity and do not enter or come near the construction area.
Once demolition has concluded the area will continue to have a fence around the Consumers Energy owned land and will only be accessible to Consumers Energy employees and the local fire Department for training or emergency use.
Important Public Safety Reminder From Consumers Energy
This is a safety reminder for Freedom Township residents, particularly those living around Pleasant Lake and near the Consumers Energy Freedom Compressor Station.
Understanding who to contact and what channels to use is critical to communicating clearly and effectively in an emergency. Making the wrong initial contact can result in response delays that could affect the safety of you and your family.
Here are examples of who to contact and how in potential emergencies/emergent situations related to Consumers Energy, our Freedom Compressor Station, and/or pipelines in the area:
- Fire, loud noise similar to a jet plane near the compressor station or pipelines: Call 911, ask for Fire Response.
- Suspicious activity near the compressor station or pipelines: Call 911.
- Smell of natural gas (similar to rotten eggs), blowing or hissing noise: Call Consumers Energy 24/7 at 800-477-5050.
- No natural gas flow to your home: Call Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050.
Please do not contact other company officials. Again, making the right contact the first time is critical to getting proper response.
For questions outside of an emergency event please use the approved communications plan adopted by Freedom Township. The form can be found on the Freedom Township website under “Pipeline Company Updates”.
It is also very important to sign up for Nixle notifications from Washtenaw County at www.nixle.com or text 888-777 and put in your zip code in the subject. Nixle keeps you up-to-date with relevant information from your local and county public safety departments and schools.
Thank you for your support. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Stephanie Roehl Blatt at 734-513-6200 or visit www.ConsumersEnergy.com/pipelinesafety .
